HORSES GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

Serenity Farm Horse Rescue has had the privilege and honor of providing support, care, and love to these cherished horses who have since passed away.  Each has left an indelible mark on our hearts, and their memory will forever be treasured at our rescue.

Shamus

1996  Connemara Cross

Shamus was a 22-year-old Connemara rescue who had many careers. He served as a school horse, teaching many kids to ride in lower-level dressage and as a hunter/jumper.

When he came to us, he was underweight and had an untreated eye disease that eventually led to almost total blindness. Shamus had a special affinity for attention and would even fall asleep while being groomed. He was truly the kindest and sweetest rescue we had the honor of knowing.

Shamus always required eye medication and treatment to alleviate pain and discomfort, and prevent infections in his eyes. And, of course, he deserved a carrot as a treat for taking his meds like the champion he always was.

Toward the end, Shamus was experiencing many neurological issues that we could no longer look past. We will miss him dearly, and he was such a pleasure to have at Serenity Farm. He taught us and our volunteers so much. May his memory continue to inspire us all.

Lilly

1994 OTTB

Lilly,  was a 28-year-old ex-race horse that we rescued from a neglect case.  Lilly was a successful racehorse and upper-level eventer in her prime. When she arrived at our sanctuary, she was severely underweight, with major sores and abscesses in her mouth, hindering her ability to eat. Additionally, she had infected sores and lacerations on one of her hips and legs.  Following a slow and challenging two-year recovery, Lilly eventually became a beloved member of our barn. While she faced ongoing health issues requiring extensive medication, she lived out her retirement happily and healthily at Serenity Farm Horse Rescue and will be greatly missed by all.

Lulu

1996 Rocky Mountain Horse

Lulu was a very sweet mare who had a really tough life before her time at  Serenity Farm Horse Rescue.  In her early life, she was an abuse case and had a lot of residual fear.  Despite her challenging past, she truly blossomed with the help of the volunteers.  And had the best times on her trail rides with some young riders.

Laney

2000 OTTB

When Laney, a 23-year-old thoroughbred, came to our rescue as an owner surrender, we swiftly identified some concerning health issues. A hoof disease, requiring regular trimmings and pain management medication, was discovered upon her arrival. In addition, Laney was underweight and had been diagnosed with Cushings disease. Moreover, she displayed deep distrust towards any form of handling.

Yet, after 3 years and despite all odds, she transitioned into a remarkably sweet-natured mare — and we provided the utmost comfort and well-being in her forever-home here at SFHR.  Her incredible transformation symbolized the powerful impact of compassionate care and the resilience of these magnificent animals.  We will miss her dearly.
